Like most famous [or infamous] eras, the Era of Wrecking eventually declined and came to an end. With new technologies of the world sweeping through the roaring twenties like the onset of nationally established railroads and advanced navigational aids, the occurrence of shipwrecks rapidly declined. In 1921, the Wrecking Courts of Key West closed and subsequently closed the era that had made Key West one of the wealthiest cities in America!
